In this article we are going to compare organic mattresses of European SleepWorks to those found at Urban Sleep Store. This is one article in a series of articles we’ve categorized as “Organic Mattresses from Bay Area Mattress Stores”. This series of articles are written in an effort to remain as transparent as possible to our readers as we compare the organic mattresses of each store in this series to Urban Sleep Store using 5 of the most important topics to our demographic. The topics we are going to be discussing are listed below…
- What Mattress brands are carried
- The Price range of the mattresses carried
- Organic certifications
- Where is the mattress manufactured or produced
- What guarantees come with the mattress
This article, as well as all the others you’ll find in this series, are not intended to bash or skew the view of European SleepWorks or any other competitor. We simply want to remain transparent and allow our readers and potential customers the opportunity to compare our store to others (in the comfort of their home). This way they can then decide where they want to begin shopping for their organic mattress based on the 5 factors mentioned above. So let’s begin by taking a look at European SleepWorks.
How does European SleepWorks Stack up to Urban Sleep Store?
Brands Carried by European Sleep Works
European SleepWorks carries and sells their own personal brand called Berkeley Ergonomics. While they design a bed that they truly hope is appealing to their customers they have a vested interest to sell their brand. This means that you may be sacrificing choice just a bit when you shop at European SleepWorks because you probably won’t be offered another brand that may work better for you (or your loved ones) if you aren’t satisfied with the 5 choices they offer.
Urban Sleep Store, on the other hand, carries 5 lines of mattresses each with their own styles or collection of mattresses. This includes everything from certified organic mattress, pure natural latex mattresses and even TEMPUR-pedic mattresses (the most recommended mattress in the U.S.). Since mattresses are not a “one style fits all” product, the various brands and styles we carry ensure that you’ll find a mattress that works best for you and/or your loved ones.
Price Range of Mattresses
The price range of European SleepWorks mattresses are from $900 to $2500 with an introductory price on a queen size mattress of $1400 (mattress only). The price range of Urban Sleep Stores mattresses are from $899 to $9995 with our introductory price on a queen size mattress of $899 (mattress only). Yes, our mattresses top out at almost 4 times the amount of European SleepWorks most expensive mattress but this is because Urban Sleep Store carries mattresses that are made using only the highest quality materials and the most advanced sleep technology available today. While we feel European SleepWorks makes a good mattress for the money, if you put their top of the line mattress against one similarly priced at Urban Sleep Store we can easily show how ours is far better in quality based on materials and technology.
Does European SleepWorks Carry Certified Organic Mattresses?
This is always a big area of confusion for most people looking for truly organic mattresses. The confusion is because there are so many mattresses out there that are touting to be organic when in fact they are not. Others, like European SleepWorks, actually use some organic materials in their mattresses but the complete product is not certified to be an organic mattress.
In order to be truly organic, all the materials of the mattress must be certified organic from a third party certification group. Next, the mattress must be manufacture in a certified organic mattress manufacturing plant that only makes organic mattresses. This prevents cross contamination of chemicals used to make other non-organic mattresses. Currently there is only one large scale 100% organic manufacturing plant in North America and SleepWorks mattresses are not manufactured there.
In short, European SleepWorks does not have any organic certifications. Moreover, their raw materials come from various countries such as Germany, France, the Netherlands and Malaysia and are then shipped to a their factory in Ontario, CA. for manufacturing. However, they are certified by Oeko-Tex which tests for skin-friendly clothing and other textiles to ensure they are chemical free and safe for human use. This is definitely a positive aspect of SleepWorks mattresses.
So how does Urban Sleep Stores organic mattress line stand up to European SleepWorks? The organic mattress line carried by Urban Sleep Store have four organic certifications for raw materials which all come from the U.S.. They have two certifications for their manufacturing plant (also in the U.S.) and an additional two certifications from third party testing groups like the Consumer Products Safety Commission. In addition, there is OMI’s purity guarantee which simply states that if you can find a purer mattress than theirs, they’ll give you their mattress for free.
Here are all the organic mattress certifications held by OMI for their organicpedic mattresses. Once you click on the link to view the certification, click the expand button in the upper right hand corner for a larger view.
While European SleepWorks does strive to make a clean and chemical free mattress for their consumers, they can’t compare the purity of the organic mattresses carried by Urban Sleep Store.
Where are European SleepWork Mattresses Manufactured?
As we mentioned in the organic certifications section above, European SleepWorks mattress materials come from various countries. They get their wool, cotton and slats from Germany, slat holders from France, latex from the Netherlands and Malaysia and their pocketed coils from Germany and Sweden. They have all their sourced materials shipped to their mattress manufacturing plant in Ontario, CA. for production.
Since Urban Sleep Store carries a wide range of mattresses you can choose to purchase and in turn support the mattress of your choice. If you aren’t concerned with organic mattresses and carbon footprints then you may opt to go with a non-organic brand or a brand that uses some organic materials in a finished product that is certified safe for humans but is not certified organic (like those found at European SleepWorks).
If organic purity and carbon footprints are an area of concern for you (and it is for a lot of our customers) then you will be pleased to know that our organic mattress line sources all their organic raw materials right here in the U.S. and their mattresses are manufactured in the first and only 100% certified organic mattress manufacturing facility also in the U.S., more specifically, in Northern California. So when you buy an organic mattress from Urban Sleep Store you know that the carbon footprint left to make and transport the raw materials to the plant for manufacturing is very minimal compared to European Sleepworks and others.
What Type of Guarantee Does European SleepWorks Have?
Ah, guarantees. This is a big concern for customers because you can never be sure if you are going to like the mattress after you’ve actually slept on it for some time. Mattress retailers, by law, cannot resell a used mattress. More often you are provided with some type of comfort guarantee that states if you are not satisfied with your mattress you have “x” amount of days to come in and exchange it for something that work best for you.
European SleepWorks state that if your unsatisfied with your mattress you can bring it back in within 60 days for an exchange or refund (minus any delivery fees).
Urban Sleep Store on the other hands offers a 90 day comfort guarantee. This means that if for any reason you are unhappy with your new mattress you can bring bring it back within 90 days and exchange it for one you feel will work better.
Keep in mind, Urban Sleep Store has the largest selection of organic mattress in the Bay Area and the sales staff at Urban Sleep Store are experts in mattress technology and materials. They take the time to ask the right questions about your current sleep environment and sleep habits which ensures a very high success rate of happy customers and a very low rate of returns.
So there you have it. 5 factors of comparison to help you decide where you want to start shopping for your new specialty or organic mattresses. Whether you choose Urban Sleep Store or European SleepWorks we hope we’ve saved you some time.
